Salvation

God’s Purpose: Peace and Life

God loves you and wants you to experience peace and eternal life. The Bible says, “we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us” (Romans 5:1). Since God planned for us to have this peace and this full life, why aren’t we experiencing it?

Our Problem: Separation

God created us to be like Him and to enjoy life. He did not force us to love and obey Him, but He gave us a will, and freedom of choice. But the first man and woman chose to disobey God, and go their own willful way. We call this Sin. Today, we continue to make that choice. The Bible tells us that, “Everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence” (Romans 3:23). This results in our separation from God. The Bible says, “For sin pays its wage – death; but God’s free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). Through the ages, people have tried to make their way to God, but without success.

God’s Answer: Jesus Christ

God’s answer to our problem is by sending Jesus Christ, who died on the cross and came back to life. Jesus Christ took our punishment for Sin, and bridged the gap between God and man. The Bible tells us, “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8).

God’s Promise: Eternal Life

God promises us safety, security and eternal life when we accept what He has done for us. “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). God’s promise is available for all, “Everyone who calls out to the Lord for help will be saved” (Romans 10:13).

God’s Gift: Is Free

God’s gift to us cannot be earned or bought. He gives it to us for free, “God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Our Response: Receive Christ

We are saved by faith. How do we do this? First, we must hear the Gospel, which is the good news that God has saved us through Jesus Christ, who died for us and came back to life (Ephesians 1:13). Then, we must believe and trust Jesus, and confess out loud that He is the Lord and Saviour of our lives (Romans 10:9-13). When you have done this, you have received the gift of God, which is called Salvation. If you believe, God promises, “to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).

Our Salvation: Confessing Christ

What do we say if we want Jesus to save us? Follow this prayer: Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn away from my sins. I now invite You to come into my life. I trust You as my Saviour and I choose to follow You as Lord. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
